Turn Your Passion into a Career
One-On-One Doula Mentorships
With a Masters in Education, I’ve always had a love for teaching (and learning). Since becoming a doula at the beginning of 2022, I’ve attended more than 70 births and truly turned my “side gig” into a profitable, passion-driven career. And now I’m finding a demand and need for doula mentors who can truly support newer birth workers as they navigate this unique line of work. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on my own certification: what I really felt it was missing, the support I felt was lacking, and the community I was craving. And that’s how this mentorship program was born — with the desire to fill the gaps so many newer doulas are left with after certifying with larger programs and still not feeling ready to find their first client, support their first birth, and make their work sustainable and profitable.
This mentorship is designed to be mutually beneficial by providing new doulas the support and education to help their business thrive while also valuing my own time and experience. After giving it much thought and prayer, I’ve chosen a price point that is affordable and accessible to most, rather than try to make this a high-profit service I provide.
What does my mentorship include?
This mentorship has two parts. The first is the initial 12-week mentorship that includes 4 virtual or in-person meetings to cover the following topics listed below. The second part is the on-call virtual support you’ll have from me during your first year of business or first six births (whichever comes first).
How to: Birth & Postpartum Support
This is less about childbirth education (although we’ll cover that a bit) and more about how to support families in the birth space. We will go over different comfort measures and unique ways to support in the birth space. We will unpack 15 different births I’ve attended and discuss all the details, how I supported, where I could have improved, and more. I will be virtually on-call for you for your first 6 births (or first year, whichever comes first). Debrief phone calls after each of those births are included as well. We’ll also talk about the on-call life and how to keep this business sustainable when it’s so easy to burn out or overwhelm yourself.
How to: Running a Business, Sustainability, Self-Care
This is an opportunity to learn about the systems I have in place to make client booking, payment, and management easy. You’ll have access to my client resources, forms, and questionnaires. We’ll also work through ways to structure your consultations, prenatal meetings, and postnatal check-ins. There will be an emphasis on “boutique-style” business — charging what your services are worth and making an income for yourself. This is also an opportunity to discuss ways to invest in your business with continuing education.
How to: Website, SEO, and Marketing
I’ll offer support and tips for building your own website, writing your web copy, and optimizing your page on search engines. Your website is the first time potential clients can feel connected to you. It’s important your website speaks to your ideal client. We’ll also discuss other marketing tips to find your first clients.
Connection
In addition to a post on my Instagram page and a link to your website from my own website, I’ll also give you details and important information about our local providers, hospitals, and birth centers. Most new doulas (including myself) have to learn a lot of that through trial and error, so you’ll be starting out ahead of the game. You’ll receive the referral list I use for my own clients as well. I also offer to add my mentors to my personal list of backup doulas should I need a backup for my own clients.
